Anti-Racist Lenses to Regulate A.I. in Brazil

The document Lentes Antirracistas para Regular Inteligência Artificial no Brasil (Anti-Racist Lenses to Regulate A.I. in Brazil) includes an international benchmark of policy recommendations around mitigating algorithmic racism and essays from anti-racist and feminist researchers and activists. The output was targeted at policy makers and stakeholders members of different institutions.
Public Hearing about Artificial Intelligence – Brazilian Senate Committee (CJUSBIA Commission 2022)
Collaboration on the panel “Artificial intelligence and risks: biases and discrimination”, with the aim of providing input for the new bill on the matter. The following points were defended: interdisciplinary education and algorithmic literacy; attention to the differences between symbolic and connectionist perspectives, in defense of the role of domain experts; and the banning of applications with known high risk.
Public Hearing about Facial Recognition – Legislative Assembly of Bahia
Participation in a public hearing on facial recognition in Bahia, the first Brazilian state to implement the technology. We defended the immediate suspension of the use of technology, sharing data on costs, and police violence, and invited state legislators to discuss its ban.
